funds. Photos [left] are of Parkway Middle School students the Jazz

Girls Spend the Night-In with BigChefHollywood, FL (May 20, 2011)–
BigChef the company that specializes in gourmet canapés and hors
d'oeuvres that are delivered to your door is doing more than creating food
masterpieces. They are out and about sharing their amazing fare with women
who like to network and have fun, aka Girls Night In. This week Rosana
Santos Calimbichis hosted the monthly Girls Night In event in her home,
complete with food, fare and fun! Everyone enjoyed the food, the
fellowship and the fantastic view atop the penthouse overlooking beautiful
South Florida Beaches. Soft Jazz music was playing in the background
compliments of Joan Cartwright of Women
in Jazz South Florida, Inc., the non-profit of choice for the evening.
According to Rosana, "Girls Night In is a perfect opportunity to meet
other professional women in a nurturing environment. It is the ultimate
networking experience, because the focus is on collaboration and
communication. There is no 'glad handing' or pushing of business cards in
your face, it is all about getting to know one another to see how we can
help each other grow in business. I recommend GNI to any woman in Broward
County who would like a different kind of networking experience. My team
and I were delighted to provide the venue and the food. We enjoyed
showcasing our gourmet canapés and hors d'oeuvres for the event,
"Rosana had her choice of collecting money from everyone as an
"entry fee" to the event or taking a collection for a charity.
She chose Women in Jazz South
Florida - a non-profit whose mission is to raise awareness of women
jazz artists to keep their music alive and showcase all the women who have
been a part of the history of jazz. Joan Cartwright, Founder said about
the night "What a delight to meet each and everyone of you at the top
of the world! Rosana is a gracious host and, if you feel like I feel, we
truly were in a welcoming surrounding to come together, last night! All of
you have inspired me and I am moved by your generosity at Rosana's desire
to benefit WOMEN IN JAZZ SOUTH
FLORIDA, INC. The food is so memorable that I'm waiting for more
canapes to show up as I type!!! Oh, what a lovely evening." For more

GOOD
NEWS FOR WOMEN IN JAZZ!
THE
AMERICAN FEDERATION OF MUSICIANS - PENSION PLAN
It
's our joy to share the gift of music with others. However, we may
overlook the need to care for ourselves or feel inadequate in this
activity because we don’t have “regular” jobs. Maybe we have
no idea where to begin. What I’m referring to is a pension for our
retirement years. Few musicians have a 401K package and that is even
unreliable, in today’s financial environment.
The
American Federation of Musicians offers an opportunity with a
retirement and pension package that is in the top 1% in the country.
With contributions of up to 15% of their earnings, musicians get
vested in only five (5) years!
Learn
about the American Federation of Musicians (AFM) - Local 655 online
at www.afm655.com and explore
this great opportunity. Women live longer and we must prepare for
our later years, in a deliberate manner.
I just reinstated my membership. A representative of Local AFM 655
will meet with us to share the benefits of membership. Let’s take
advantage this, now! I’m on the 5-year plan! ~ Melody
